No free plan, a 14-day trial
PhotoShelter has no free plan. The 14-day free trial lets you set up an account and try it: if you cancel during the trial you are not charged, and after 14 days PhotoShelter automatically charges the regular fee for the plan you picked. You can upgrade, downgrade or cancel at any time from inside your account, but PhotoShelter doesn't refund services you have already been billed for, which matters most on an annual plan. PhotoShelter for Brands, the asset management product for companies, is a separate product.
What every plan includes
All three plans come with 9 customizable website templates, your own domain, and integrations with Instagram, WordPress, Vimeo and Tumblr. You get unlimited public, password-protected and private galleries, SEO and social sharing tools, mobile apps, mandatory two-factor authentication and no setup fees. Every plan can sell prints, products, downloads and licenses, and uploads work through plug-ins for Lightroom and Photo Mechanic or the desktop and web uploaders. Apart from storage, the client proofing tool is the only difference: it is not on Basic, and it is included on Standard and Pro.
Fees on top of the subscription
When you sell through PhotoShelter, it charges a sales transaction fee between 8% and 10%, depending on your plan. On top of that come printing and shipping fees from its integrated print vendors and transaction fees from your merchant bank. The shopping cart supports more than 23 currencies, with payouts through PayPal or Stripe. If you need more room, extra storage comes in 10 GB or 35 GB steps on monthly or annual billing; the plan page doesn't list its price. PhotoShelter may also charge bandwidth overage fees for image deliveries, though it says individual photographers rarely go over their allowance.
Annual or monthly billing
Paying annually saves $35.88 a year on Basic, about 23%, and $59.88 a year on both Standard and Pro, about 17% and 10%. Monthly billing costs $12.99, $29.99 and $49.99. Because PhotoShelter doesn't refund time you've already paid for, it makes sense to start monthly or on the trial if you aren't sure the platform fits.
How RAW files are delivered
PhotoShelter accepts RAW files for archival use only and shows them as resized JPGs, made from the preview image embedded in each RAW. It recommends delivering RAW files as the Original File, and it doesn't recommend HEIC files for delivery. Video isn't supported on the Photographers platform. On shoots.page, a client's original download of a RAW is a full-size sRGB JPEG made from the RAW with the camera's white balance, and the untouched RAW files are one switch away. JPEG, PNG, HEIC, TIFF and WebP originals come back byte for byte.
PhotoShelter or shoots.page for delivery only
shoots.page only delivers photos and collects picks. It has no website, store, archive, video, watermarks or custom domains.
