How gallery passwords work

  1. Set a password on your gallery

Choose any phrase between 8 and 256 characters, either before publishing or later from your gallery settings.

  2. Share the link

Share the unlisted gallery link with your client.

  3. Client enters it once

Your client opens the link in their browser and enters the password once.

  4. Browse and download as usual

They browse the grid of 60 thumbnails per page, view 2000 px previews, and download files according to your settings, with no recipient account required.

The layers under the password

Every gallery link is unlisted from the moment you create it. shoots.page marks every gallery page with a noindex tag, excludes it from the sitemap, and disallows it in robots.txt so search engines do not crawl or index your client work. You can read more about how this works in our guide to gallery link access.

A password adds a second barrier for the people layer. Even if an unlisted link is found or misplaced, no one can see the thumbnail grid or download files without entering the password. You can also add a gallery expiry date to automatically shut down access when a project is complete.

Choosing and sharing the password

Passwords can be anywhere from 8 to 256 characters long, which means you can use a single word or a full sentence. For a little extra care, send the gallery link in an email and provide the password in a separate text message. You can find more delivery tips in our overview of share and sender links.

Common questions

Do recipients need an account to enter the password?
No. Your recipients never need to sign up, sign in, or install anything. They simply open the link, type the password once, and view their photos.
Can I add or change the password after sharing the link?
Yes. You can set, update, or remove the password at any time from your gallery settings. If you change it, anyone opening the link from that point forward will need the new password.
Is the gallery visible on search engines without the password?
No. All galleries are unlisted by default. Search engines cannot index them because every gallery uses a noindex tag, is left out of the sitemap, and is disallowed in robots.txt, whether you set a password or not.
What happens if the password gets forwarded around?
Because shoots.page uses bearer links rather than individual user accounts, anyone with both the URL and the password can open the gallery. If you need to stop unwanted access, you can update the password or revoke the gallery from your settings in the app.
