Prepare HEIC photos for delivery

shoots.page accepts JPEG, PNG and RAW — not HEIC. Switch your iPhone camera to JPEG for future shoots, or convert existing shots with the tools already on your phone and computer.

The short answer

shoots.page accepts JPEG, PNG and RAW uploads, but does not support HEIC or HEIF files. If you shot your images on an iPhone, you have two clear choices: switch your camera to save future shots as JPEGs, or convert your existing HEIC photos before uploading.

While an extra step takes a moment, converting gives you a reliable result. A standard JPEG file is universally compatible, meaning every client device on earth can open it without issues or missing software.

For photos you haven't taken yet

iPhones shoot in HEIC by default under Apple's "High Efficiency" setting. To save future shots as JPEGs instead, open the Settings app on your iPhone, tap Camera, tap Formats, and select Most Compatible. From that point forward, new photos are saved as JPEG and new videos as H.264. Keep in mind that this change only applies to future captures; your existing photos will remain HEIC files.

Convert HEIC photos already on your iPhone

You can convert existing HEIC photos directly on your iPhone without downloading third-party tools. Open your image in the Photos app, tap Share, and select Save to Files; the copy saved to the Files app is saved as a JPEG. You can also copy a photo in the Photos app and paste it directly into the Files app to create a JPEG. If you prefer to share images immediately, tap Options at the top of the share sheet and choose Most Compatible.

If you prefer moving your images straight to a computer, your phone can handle the file change for you. Go to Settings > Photos, locate Transfer to Mac or PC, and select Automatic. Your iPhone will convert your HEIC images to JPEG automatically during the transfer process.

Convert on a Mac or PC

On a Mac, open the Photos app and highlight the images you want to convert. Select File > Export > Export [number] Photos, set the Photo Kind option to JPEG, and complete the export. Avoid selecting "Export Unmodified Original", as that keeps the original HEIC file instead of converting it.

On Windows, the default Photos app can open HEIC files once you install the free "HEIF Image Extensions" package from the Microsoft Store. For certain .heic files, Windows may also require the separate "HEVC Video Extensions" package from the Store. Once opened on your PC, you will still need to export or save the photos as JPEGs before uploading them to shoots.page.

Common questions

Why won't my iPhone photos upload to shoots.page?

iPhones shoot in HEIC format by default, but shoots.page only accepts JPEG, PNG, and RAW files. You must convert your HEIC images before uploading them. Check our file guidelines for a complete list of accepted formats.

Does converting HEIC to JPEG lose quality?

How do I stop my iPhone shooting HEIC in the first place?

Open Settings on your iPhone and tap Camera. Go to Formats and select Most Compatible. Your iPhone will now save all future photos as JPEGs.

Can I open HEIC files on Windows?

Yes, you can view them in the Windows Photos app after installing the free HEIF Image Extensions from the Microsoft Store. Depending on the file, your system may also require the separate HEVC Video Extensions.
