3,000 photos: 24 GB JPEG, 75 GB RAW

How many GB is 3,000 photos?

3,000 photos take about 24 GB as 8 MB JPEGs or 75 GB as 25 MB RAW files, and both fit shoots.page Pro with 100 GB. They fit as long as the average stays at 33.3 MB or less; 50 MB RAW files would need 150 GB.

3,000 photos at example average sizes

Example averages, not camera specifications. Decimal GB, 1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes, the way shoots.page counts storage. Percentages show how much of each plan the set uses.

How the estimate works

Multiply the photo count by the average file size: 3,000 x 8 MB = 24,000 MB = 24 GB, and 3,000 x 25 MB = 75,000 MB = 75 GB. The averages in the table are examples, not camera specifications. Measure your own by dividing the size of an export folder by the number of photos in it, then check it in the gallery size calculator.

Fitting 3,000 photos on Pro

The free plan's 2 GB is far too small here: 3,000 photos would have to average about 0.67 MB. Pro stores 100 GB for USD 9 a month or USD 90 a year before tax, or EUR 8 a month or EUR 80 a year in Europe with VAT included.

24 GB of JPEGs uses 24% of Pro and leaves 76 GB for your other galleries. 75 GB of RAW files at 25 MB uses 75% and leaves 25 GB. The break-even is 100,000 MB / 3,000 = about 33.3 MB per photo. At 50 MB per RAW file the set is 150 GB, 50 GB more than Pro holds, so deliver JPEG exports, or deliver in rounds and delete each gallery once your client has downloaded it; the storage comes back after cleanup (see delete and expire galleries).

Storage covers your whole account, so other published galleries share the same 100 GB. Only the files you upload count; previews, thumbnails and the full-size JPEGs made from RAW files do not. You can upload the set as a draft first, and if publishing would take your live galleries past your plan, move to Pro or remove photos until it fits. See pricing.

Why your computer shows a different number

shoots.page counts 1 GB as 1,000,000,000 bytes, and Apple says storage makers measure capacity the same way. Windows File Explorer counts in steps of 1,024 and still writes GB, so your 24 GB set shows as about 22.4 GB in Windows, 75 GB as about 69.8 GB, and Pro's 100 GB as about 93.1 GB. That is about 7% less in GB, and about 5% less in MB.

The gap grows with the set: for 75 GB of RAW files, the number Windows shows is about 5.2 lower, though not a byte is missing. Apple notes that some older systems, such as iOS 10 and earlier and OS X Leopard and earlier, report storage in binary too.

Delivering 3,000 photos

Your client gets one gallery link, with no account and nothing to pay. At 60 photos per page, 3,000 photos fill 50 pages, so splitting the set into a few galleries, by part of the day or by theme, is easier to browse. It uses the same storage.

Clients save originals byte for byte, one by one or as one ZIP per gallery, or take 2000 px JPEGs. RAW uploads reach them as full-size JPEGs unless you switch on RAW downloads.

At 100 Mbps, 24 GB takes about 32 to 42 minutes to upload, and 75 GB about 1 hour 40 minutes to 2 hours 10 minutes. At 20 Mbps, 24 GB takes about 2 hours 40 minutes to 3 hours 28 minutes, so start early. Check your own line with the upload time calculator. If an upload is interrupted, press Resume upload and only the missing parts are sent. A delivery gallery is not a backup, so keep your own archive.

Common questions

How many GB is 3,000 photos?
About 24 GB at an example average of 8 MB, 9 GB at 3 MB and 36 GB at 12 MB. As RAW files, about 75 GB at 25 MB and 150 GB at 50 MB.
Is 100 GB enough for 3,000 RAW photos?
At 25 MB per file, yes: 75 GB, with 25 GB left. At 50 MB per file, no: 150 GB, 50 GB over shoots.page Pro.
What average size fits 3,000 photos in 100 GB?
About 33.3 MB per photo or less, because 100,000 MB / 3,000 = 33.3 MB.
How long does uploading 3,000 photos take?
24 GB of JPEGs takes about 32 to 42 minutes at 100 Mbps. 75 GB of RAW files takes about 1 hour 40 minutes to 2 hours 10 minutes.
Should 3,000 photos go in one gallery?
You can: there is no cap on photos per gallery. 3,000 photos make 50 pages of 60, so a few smaller galleries are easier to browse and use the same storage.
