How to convert RAF to JPG

FUJIFILM X RAW STUDIO converts it using your camera, connected by USB, or upload the RAFs to a shoots.page gallery when the JPGs are for a client. Each RAF becomes a full-size sRGB JPEG at quality 92, free up to 2 GB; GFX100-series files, at about 102 megapixels, are too large.

The short answer

FUJIFILM X RAW STUDIO converts RAF files to JPEG with your camera's own image processor while the camera is connected by USB. Without the camera, use darktable, RawTherapee or Photos on a Mac, or Adobe Lightroom Classic.

If the JPEGs are for a client, upload the RAFs to a shoots.page gallery. It makes a full-size JPEG of each one in the background. The exception is the GFX100 series: those files are over its 100-megapixel limit.

Convert RAF to JPG with FUJIFILM X RAW STUDIO

Fujifilm lists X RAW STUDIO for Windows 11 and 10 (64-bit) and macOS 11 to 15. The current version is 1.28.0, updated 23 October 2025.

It works differently from other converters: connect a compatible Fujifilm camera to the computer with a USB cable and set the camera's connection setting to USB RAW CONV./BACKUP RESTORE. The camera's processor then does the work, not your computer's CPU. Fujifilm says processing time is not affected by the limits of your computer, "there is no difficulty in batch processing large number of images", and you get "exactly the same image quality as that of the camera including tone, color reproduction, and Film Simulations."

That makes it a good fit when you want to batch convert RAW to JPG and keep the look you chose in camera. Fujifilm's software page also lists RAW FILE CONVERTER EX 3.0 powered by SILKYPIX, version 8.1.20.0.

Other ways to convert RAF

When the camera isn't at hand, these open RAF files too. The RAW to JPG overview covers other formats.

  • Photos on a Mac: Apple's RAW list for macOS 27 includes the FUJIFILM X-T5, X-T50 and GFX 100 models. Select your photos, choose File > Export > Export [number] Photos, set Photo Kind to JPEG, pick JPEG Quality and Size, and click Export.
  • Windows: Microsoft's free Raw Image Extension lets File Explorer show RAF thumbnails and metadata and the Photos app open the files. It is for viewing, not converting.
  • darktable: free and open source, for Windows, Linux and macOS 13.5 or later (no Intel Mac builds). Its camera list includes the X-T5 and the GFX 100, GFX100 II and GFX100S, but it lists Fujifilm lossy RAFs as not supported. Select images and use the export module to write JPEGs.
  • RawTherapee: free and cross-platform under GPLv3, now at version 5.13, which added a color matrix for the GFX 100 II.
  • Adobe Lightroom Classic: paid, on an Adobe plan with a free trial. Select photos in Grid view, choose File > Export, set Export To Hard Drive, pick JPEG and a color space in File Settings, set Image Sizing and click Export.

GFX100 files and the 100 MP limit

GFX100-series cameras produce RAF files of 11648 x 8736 pixels, about 102 megapixels. shoots.page decodes RAW files up to 100 megapixels, so these fail processing, and you must remove them before you can publish the gallery.

For a GFX100 shoot, convert the RAFs to JPEG on your computer first, for example with X RAW STUDIO, which lists the GFX100, GFX100 II, GFX100S and GFX100S II as compatible. Then upload the finished JPEGs.

RAF to JPG for a client, with shoots.page

shoots.page is a delivery gallery, not a converter app. It makes the JPEGs as part of the delivery:

  1. Pick your RAF files on the shoots.page homepage and sign in with Google. It's free.
  2. Upload. Files go up in resumable 8 MiB parts, so an interrupted upload picks up where it left off.
  3. Review the previews, then publish.
  4. Share the unlisted link (https://shoots.page/g/...), with an optional password or expiry date.

Your client downloads without an account. The Originals switch is on by default, so DSCF0001.RAF downloads as DSCF0001.jpg at full size, one by one or as a ZIP. For the full-size JPEGs yourself, open the published link and choose Download all photos. The Free plan's 2 GB holds about 80 RAWs at 25 MB each.

The trade-offs

  • No Film Simulations or edits: LibRaw 0.22.1 renders the RAW with the camera's recorded white balance and a standard demosaic, with no lens or chromatic-aberration correction and no Film Simulation. shoots.page reads no .xmp sidecars or catalog edits. If you edited, export JPEGs from Lightroom or your editor and upload those.
  • Embedded camera JPEG: if a RAF holds a camera JPEG of at least 90% of full size, shoots.page may use it instead of decoding the RAW.
  • Fixed output: full size, quality 92, sRGB with an embedded sRGB profile. No size or quality options.
  • Trimmed EXIF: camera make, model and capture date and time stay. Lens, GPS and exposure data are removed.
  • Processing time: the full-size JPEG is made in a separate background job. Until it's ready, a download is the 2000 px preview under the same name.

If your client needs the untouched RAW data, turn on the RAW switch to send the RAF files themselves.

Common questions

Do I need my camera plugged in to use FUJIFILM X RAW STUDIO?
Yes. It converts RAF files with the processor of a compatible camera connected by USB in USB RAW CONV./BACKUP RESTORE mode.
Why do my shoots.page JPEGs look different from the camera JPEGs?
shoots.page decodes RAFs with LibRaw, which applies no Film Simulation or lens profile; colors follow the RAW data and the camera's white balance. If the RAF holds a camera JPEG of at least 90% of full size, that JPEG may be used instead.
Why did my GFX100 RAF fail on shoots.page?
GFX100-series RAFs are 11648 x 8736 pixels, about 102 megapixels. shoots.page can't process RAW files over 100 megapixels, so remove them and upload JPEGs converted on your computer.
Is there a free way to convert RAF without the camera?
Yes. darktable and RawTherapee are free on Windows, macOS and Linux, and Photos on a Mac exports supported RAF files to JPEG.
Can my client download JPGs without installing software?
Yes. Your client opens the gallery link in a browser and downloads full-size JPEGs, with no account or special software.
